About Silicate Dispersion Paints
meeting German Standard DIN 18363

Silicate Dispersion Paint is also known as Inorganic Mineral Paint. It was developed in Germany in the late 1800s. Since then this type of paint has evolved into a first-class interior and exterior decorative, protective coating with out-standing technical quality features.

As an exterior wall finish on stucco, concrete, masonry and natural stone it is valued for it's:

  • Durability
  • Breathability
  • Lightfastness and
  • Resistance against acid rain

on historical restoration projects as well as in new construction of residential, commercial and institutional projects.

As an interior wall finish on stucco, concrete, masonry and drywall, Silicate Dispersion Paint provides an odourless, anti-microbial, non-combustible, matte finish in subtle Earthen & Mineral Pigment colours.

The colour range can reach from solid full-tone colours to pastels, off-whites and more artistic approaches, such as colour washes, faux-painting and mural painting.

Several auxiliary products make artistic painting with Eco-House Silicate Dispersion Paints and Stains easier than ever, even for the novice.

Environmental & Health Reasons for using Silicate Paints:
  • Unprecedented Durability
  • Anti-microbial without fungicides
  • Solvent-free
  • Odourless within hours
  • 97% Mineral content in water
  • Non-combustible at any temperature
  • Abundant raw material availability
Surfaces suitable for Silicate Dispersion Paint:
Ideal are all mineral wall surfaces made of concrete, stucco, brick, natural stone or drywall. Only clean, rigid and absorbent wall and ceiling surfaces should be painted with Silicate Dispersion Paint. Do not use on metal or wood.

Application:
Read and understand instructions before you start. Some surfaces may require a pre-treatment with # 1050 PrimaSil, a Silicate Primer - Conditioner. Surfaces must be clean of dust and oily residues. Apply 1 - 2 coats by roller, brush or spraying. See Technical Data Sheet of the specific product.

What makes Silicate Dispersion Paint different from Conventional Dispersion Paints?
Conventional Latex Dispersion Paint fails prevailingly due to aging of the latex resin or due to moisture trapped underneath the paint coat. When exposed to rising temperatures the trapped moisture tries to evaporate, but is retained by an impermeable paint film. As a result the water-vapours lift the paint film ( blistering ) and cause it to fail prematurely ( peeling ).

Inorganic Mineral Paint uses a liquid mineral ( potassium silicate ) as the binder, which determines the fundamentally different attributes of Silicate Dispersion Paints. Unlike latex resins, Minerals do not not age. Silicate Paint does not form a film, but bonds by penetrating into the surface and by petrification into a stone-like micro-crystalline coating, which repells liquid water, but allows water-vapours to pass through. Therefore Eco-House Silicate Dispersion Paint can not blister or peel - guaranteed by the laws of chemistry.
